A town centre pub will no longer be able to play music or sell alcohol, after a barrage of complaints about noise, crime and anti-social behaviour.
The Cherry Bomb, Robertson Street, had been the subject of a comprehensive review by Hastings Police officers and Hastings Borough Council's environmental health team.

A hearing was held last month to discuss the operating licence, as part of the
council's Licensing Committee meeting. Members heard evidence and considered the future of the premises.

The operator of the pub had requested an adjournment in order to consider the wealth of evidence and the hearing had been planned to reconvene on Tuesday.

However, the meeting was cancelled after the Cherry Bomb's licence holder surrendered the pub's licence, rather than contest the evidence.
Had the review gone ahead, the Licensing Committee could have considered changing the licence conditions or taking the licence away completely.

A Hastings Borough Council spokesman said: "This is an excellent example of inter agency working together with the public for the benefit of the whole community. This is certainly not about putting a premises out of business, but making sure that pubs are run properly and licence holders do their part in keeping their customers safe and behave responsibly in the limits of the licensing rules."
