Police are telling parents not to panic following reports a man tried to entice a teenage girl into his car at Staplecross.
The 13-year-old was walking along Cripps Corner Road at 6pm yesterday (Monday), when a man pulled up next to her in a green 4x4.
He asked the girl if she wanted to see some puppies, but she refused and the man drove off towards Hastings.
The driver is described as white and bald.
Police say at the moment they are not treating the incident as an abduction attempt and say residents should not be concerned.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "At the moment there's no evidence from the report that we received of any attempted abduction, although we are still examining the circumstances."
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 0845 60 70 999, quoting serial 1698 of 12/05/08.
