The case of a man charged with assault was adjourned so probation could assess his mental wellbeing.
Matthew Brooks, 49 of Stonehouse Drive, pleaded guilty to assaulting Tracey Thompson when he appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

However, he will have to wait until August 13 to find out what his punishment will be after his defence lawyer, Sam Wingfield, asked the court to adjourn sentencing.

She said: "He has mental health issues and these will need to be looked at by probation."

Districh judge Roger Ede agreed to the postponement and released Brooks on conditional bail.

He was told not to contact the victim and to stay away from Jameson Crescent in Hollington and The Resource Centre in Stockleigh Road.
