Richardson, 36, of St Margarets Road, appeared in court again this week, where he admitted shoplifting 15 DVDs worth £225 from Zavvi in Hastings town centre on July 3, and failing to surrender to police bail on August 7.
Magistrates in Hastings heard that Richardson had 37 theft offences dating back 20 years.
David O'Driscoll, prosecuting, said: "At 5pm Richardson was seen in the Zavvi store at the DVD display, and a security officer thought he was acting suspiciously and decided to watch him on CCTV. He could see him hiding DVDs in his jacket.
"He left the store, setting off the alarm. He was chased and the DVDs fell from him."
Kim Goodall, mitigating, said: "We were somewhat surprised that he wasn't charged on the spot. Police bailed him to come back to the police station. He got the dates wrong, and yesterday he was arrested walking up the street."
Richardson was bailed on condition he cooperates with probation and reports to police three times a week, and the case was adjourned to September 17 for reports.

"HORSEPLAY" in Lidl resulted in David Bates assaulting two people, Hastings' magistrates court heard this week.
Bates, 21, of Magdalen Road, St Leonards pleaded guilty to two charges of common assault on August 13.
David O'Driscoll, prosecuting, said: "In the Lidl store at around 6.45pm Bates was in there with his stepfather and there was a bit of horseplay, and the staff regarded him as intoxicated.
"One man decided to usher him out of the store and Bates grabbed him by the throat.
"A security officer stepped in and as he did so was punched in the head and suffered a cut above his right eye. Bates was restrained and the police were called."
Bates was bailed on the condition he does not enter Lidl, and the case was adjourned to September 17 for reports.

A MATURE man of previous good character admitted kicking his wife in the face, before magistrates this week.
Jeffrey Walter Johnson, 56, of Benenden Rise, pleaded guilty to the August 24 actual bodily harm of Sharon Johnson.
The court heard that Johnson has had no cautions, reprimands or convictions in the past.
David O'Driscoll, prosecuting, said: "Police were called to the home address and the lady who answered the door clearly had a facial injury, and told police that the injury had been caused by a kick to the face.
"She has a broken nose.
"This appeared to have been the culmination of an argument at a party. Alcohol was involved."
