Boy racers and speeding could soon be a thing of the past in a street in Old Town.
Bosses at the county council have unveiled a series of traffic calming plans in Rock-a-Nore Road in a bid to combat the problem.

Old Town councillor Jay Kramer said it had blighted the area for years.
Residents were well represented in the public
gallery at the council's recent Traffic Management Committee, which agreed unanimously to install four speed cushions as a deterrent to unlawful motorists.

Cllr Jay Kramer said: "This problem has been going on for years and has had a devastating affect on residents, visitors and businesses in the area.

"The proposals to introduce the traffic calming are fully supported by the Local Action Team, which is chaired by the police, and is a multi-agency partnership.

"The cushions have been funded by the Safer Hastings Partnership and are good value for money because they can be moved for significant events in the town, such as the half marathon and the Old Town Carnival.

"At long last, residents can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

"This has been a fantastic example of residents and organisations working together to solve a horrendous problem, which has affected the quality of life of so many."

Provided the recommendation of the Traffic Management Committee is approved by the council's cabinet, the cushions will be installed in the coming months.
