Wasps at Conquest A&E

Hospital chiefs had to call in pest exterminators as wasps infested the A&E ward at the Conquest.
A nest was found outside the ward in July last year.
The news was revealed this week in the national press following Freedom of Information requests by the Conservatives which showed 70 per cent of hospital trusts around the country had suffered from infestations of rats, cockroaches, maggots and other pests.
A spokesman for East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Conquest and Eastbourne DGH, said: "There was a wasp nest on the outside wall of A&E at Conquest on July 11 last year which was treated and disposed of.
"The trust is responsible for ensuring its buildings are clean and that patient safety is not compromised.
"Use of pest control is a sign of good proactive management.
"As part of our pest control policy we have regular surveillance to avoid pest incidents and minimize hazards taking rapid action to deal with pests when incidents occur.
"Visitors to our hospitals can help by disposing of their litter in an appropriate manner and by not dropping food debris in hospital grounds."
