Anti incinerator demonstration
Protestors have chained themselves to a large crane at the site of a proposed incinerator.
Up to 11 people broke into the site in Newhaven at about 4am today (Tuesday).
There has always been fierce opposition to the waste burner from local people concerned about pollution and potential health risks.
The incinerator is planned for the North Quay area as part of a joint contract between East Sussex County Council, Brighton and Hove City Council and waste management company Veolia .
More than 15,000 letters containing a range of objections were sent to East Sussex County Council making it the most commented on planning application ever considered by the local authority.
People are also angry about the construction at the site of the incinerator which began in early June.
The plans for the incinerator have been put under the legal spotlight this week after the High Court granted an urgent hearing for a case filed by Lewes District Friends of the Earth.
The result is due later this afternoon.
