CHINESE dragons paraded down a street in a quiet neighbourhood.
They were part of a Chinese celebration held in and around Willingdon Primary School on Monday.

The school has been learning about all things Chinese in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics.

Both dragons were made of willow and had attached drums.
These were beaten as the parade marched around Coppice Avenue, Willingdon.
School headteacher Anna Reid said: 'The children made a lot of noise and got people to come out.

'We were delighted to have the Chinese community celebration and had a brilliant evening.

'Last year we had a circus theme and this year we wanted to do something different.'

The local Chinese community turned out to support the children for the event.

A 'unicorn' sent from the community in Eastbourne started proceedings, as is traditional for Chinese festivals.

Lanterns were carried in the parade, with help from Willingdon Community School pupils.

Special robes were also created for the colourful spectacle.

More than 240 people went crackers eating a Chinese meal served up in the school's kitchens.

A bouncy castle and a barbecue also formed part of the fun.

More than £350 was raised for the earthquake appeal in China.
