A WOMAN proposed to her boyfriend and married him just half an hour later.
Lorraine Sayers, 29, has lived with William Wilkinson, 34, for nine years in Manor Way, Polegate.

She won a leap year bridal competition on Southern FM's breakfast show Danny and Nicky in the Morning.

Tradition dictates that a woman can propose to a man on February 29.
Miss Sayers popped the big question at The Hilton Brighton Metropole
while she and Mr Wilkinson ate breakfast.

Thousands of Southern FM listeners tuned in to hear him accept the proposal.

Afterwards Mr Wilkinson said: 'I'm still speechless.

'I can't believe it happened.

'I thought something was up when she said she'd been out all day shopping that Tuesday but didn't come back with any bags.

'I really love her and I'm so glad she proposed.

'She beat me to it.'

Radio presenter Jack the Lad was waiting nearby.

He darted around the corner and led the couple into a sideroom.
Families and friends were waiting for a commitment ceremony.

This set the tone for a wedding ceremony and honeymoon in Antigua, a prize in the radio competition.

Miss Sayers said: 'After nine years together and no ring I thought it was time I took matters into my own hands.

'It's been a great week and my dreams have come true.'
Father-of-the-bride John Sayers said: 'It was an absolutely brilliant day.

'I'm so happy and couldn't have asked for a better son-in-law.'
Jack the Lad said: 'It was a very emotional and highly charged morning which was a pleasure to be a part of.

'I wish Lorraine and William the best of luck in married life.

'They are a great couple and deserve every happiness.'

The couple share two children, Bronwyn, 11, and Leo, six.
