The Old Town was closed to traffic when two cars collided at the High Street junction with Holliers Hill.
Sussex Police officers sealed off the area at 1.09pm on Tuesday as two fire appliances, two ambulances and a Kent Air Ambulance responded to the emergency.

The drivers of the navy blue MG and grey VW Beetle sustained minor injuries and both were taken to the Conquest Hospital.
Neither car had passengers.

A Sussex Police officer said that a driver in third car had most likely seen what happened but did not stop to help - any witnesses with information are asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 and ask for PC Brand at the Polegate traffic unit.
