MEMBERS at our recent meeting continue to lobby both our Government and the Diplomatic Representatives of Zimbabwe about the continuing violence in the aftermath of the sham of an election in that country.
We have consistently supported both women's groups, trade union and opposition groups who have legitimately tried to oppose Mugabwe's regime and fear for innocent individuals still caught up in the killing going on in that country.

In light of tha
t recent low turnouts at by elections show how immune we have become to the need for our own democracy and in a smaller way apathy allows too much power to be held by the few be it in Town Halls or in main Governments.

We have lobbied on the question of winter fuel allowances for those who choose to live abroad often in warmer climates. It was this Labour Government that introduced the Winter Fuel Allowance and it is not means tested - is that right? And should this be reviewed as energy costs soar? If you move abroad should we help to pay your gas and electricity bill at home?

We are supporting the St Jude's Strawberry Cream Tea on July 26 - Carnival Day! 2 pm start with lovely teas alongside a tombola and cake stall.

We meet monthly on the 3rd Friday 12.30pm at 10 Magdalen Road, Bexhill.
