Fairtrade - “it is the right thing to do”

The Bexhill Fairtrade Committee is “delighted” to have the support of local MP Greg Barker at the start of two weeks of varied activities for Fairtrade Fortnight this year - from Monday February 25 until Sunday March 10.

He has sent the following statement to support the 2013 events highlighting the recent successful renewal of Bexhill Fairtrade Town status and given his backing to their attempt to encourage Bexhill residents, businesses, groups, schools, churches and organisations to take one step further towards the fair trade lifestyle.

Greg commented: “Once again, Bexhill is proving that it is a strong local community but with a global perspective. Times may be tough, but that hasn’t stopped the local Bexhill Fairtrade Committee putting on a terrific fortnight of stimulating events starting on 25 February.

“The Fairtrade Movement continues to go from strength to strength not just because it is the right thing to do but because it makes good sense on so many levels. I want to pay tribute to everyone who is supporting it in Bexhill and particularly the Steering Committee, and hope that this year’s events will be the best yet.

“Good luck and congratulations to everyone involved.”
