Global Gathering takes off
Global Fusion event at Victoria Hall, Bexhill.
YOUNG people had the chance to broaden their horizons at Bexhill Museum with a special workshop which introduced them to world art and music.
The workshop was part of the museum’s Global Gathering project, which is part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
The project seeks to introduce people aged between 14 and 24 from the Bexhill area with objects from the world art collections at the museum.
The young people are attending a series of creative workshops and will then produce work inspired by the displays.
They will be creating graphics as well as audio and video peices of work that will be on display in the museum from July to September.
Wednesday’s workshop was an introduction to world music run by local music producer Phil Thornton.
Rachel Heminway-Hurst, Global Gathering project manager, said: “The young people will be working with unfamiliar objects in an unfamiliar ‘museum’ environment, but will be able to take ownership of the project by producing interpretation that employs methods and material that are familiar to, and appeal to young people; such as technology, music and popular culture.”
The next phase of the project begins in May.
