BEXHILL Traders’ Group unites tomorrow (Saturday December 1) to bring some festive cheer to the town centre.

The fun starts at 10am, with a whole host of competitions and events, performers entertaining the crowds and cafes giving out tasters and samples of drinks.

The Spot the Stranger competitin for children aged 10 and under will start at the Library at 10 am. There will be the prizes of shopping vouchers.

Treasure Hunt for children aged 11 and over and over will start in the Library from 10 am. Shopping vouchers will also be given to the winners.

Weather permitting, Santa will be riding a penny farthing on an illuminated cycle tour of the town by the Classic Cycle Group and the Bexhill 100 Motoring Club.

The cyclists are dressing up as reindeer and elves and Drays Home Entertainments are providing prizes for the best dressed elves.

They will be riding round from about 3.30pm onward and finishing up at the De La Warr Pavilion at around 4pm, which will be hosting a Party on the Terrace for everyone from that time.

There will be drinks, music and dancing by Hastings Tango, featuring tango classics from the 1930s, until 6 pm.

In the evening there will be live music at No48 with the £2 entry fee going to the Bexhill Lions.

Bexhill Traders’ Group spokesperson Hillary Randall said: “As we had such a great day last year and people enjoyed the fancy dress so much we have asked the shopkeepers to dress up again this year.

“There will be collections throughout the town by Bexhill Lions in aid of the charities they support.

“Santa will be in attendance in the town centre all day before touring the town at the end of the afternoon.”

• At 4pm today (Friday November 30) Bexhill mayor Joanne Gadd will switch on the town’s Christmas lights.
