CHRISTMAS refuse and recycling collections will be suspended on Friday December 25, Saturday December 26 and Friday January 1.
Over the Christmas period, households often produce more refuse than can be contained within their wheeled bins. For this period only extra waste, referred to as side waste, will be collected up until the normal day of collection.
Please ensure tha
t any side waste is securely contained within a refuse sack or similar to ensure that it is not attacked by seagulls, vermin or animals.
Cardboard boxes will also be collected as side waste, but people are asked to squash them flat to assist collection; or alternatively to take them to one of the council's Bring Sites at ASDA, Fisherman's Green, Junction Road, Langney Shopping Centre, Pembury Road Car Park, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose and Wartling Road. Alternatively, if you have a Green Garden Waste Bin cardboard can be included with your garden waste as usual.
Real Christmas Trees can be taken to the Saturday morning Green Garden Waste bring sites; but please remember to remove all lights and decorations first as these do not compost. The Green Garden Waste Bring Sites at Fishermans Green, Royal Parade and Sevenoaks Car Park are open on Saturday January 2 2010. The Garden Waste Bring Sites at Sussex Downs College, Cross Levels Way and Paradise Drive with be open Saturday January 9. If you have a Green Garden Waste bin you can place your Real Christmas Tree in it for collection, but it must be cut up first.
Finally, please remember to put all of your glass bottles and jars, paper, plastic bottles, tins and cans, and textiles (inside a plastic sack) into your kerbside recycling box. Please do not include wrapping paper however as this is often made with glitter and foils.
