Party on beach for Zimbabwe

A TEENAGER born in Zimbabwe is doing his bit to help people hit by the country's spiralling inflation and poverty by holding a charity party for ActionAid on Eastbourne beach.
Mark Magonde, 19, moved to Eastbourne from the African country at the age of nine but still has family there and returned to visit his birthplace for the first time two years ago.
He said, "I was amazed at how things were so different, so bad. In Zimbabwe, I didn't have the power to do anything. Now that I am here, I feel a sense of duty to help people there."
The former Ratton School and Park College student, who now lives in Kent, decided to combine two of the things he loved — charity and parties.
More than 100 of his friends have been invited to the party on the beach near the Pier on Saturday, August 30, at 2pm, but it is open to everyone.
There will be food and live music, with all proceeds going to ActionAid, a charity seeking to end poverty.
