COURSE information on Skills for Life and English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) is set out in two new leaflets from Sussex Downs College.
Following the national campaign for Skills for Life, Sussex Downs College is offering a range of literacy and numeracy courses to help learners of all ages to brush up on their reading, writing, spelling, speaking and maths skills.

Funded by the g
overnment, the Skills for Life courses are free. To help potential learners, the classes take place at convenient times, morning, afternoon, twilight or evening in campuses at Eastbourne, Lewes and Newhaven. Classes are also being arranged in a number of community venues as well.

All the courses are roll on, roll off which means learners can start at any time throughout the year.

Appointments and further information is available by calling Eastboune 637241 or 01273 511400 or through the web at www.sussexdowns.ac.uk/skl for further details.

Sussex Downs College has also announced a new series of courses aimed at helping learners improve their skills whose first language is not English. Potential learners are invited for an assessment with a friendly teacher to help identify the best class for them.

They range from entry level through to University of Cambridge Skills for Life ESOL exams which are aimed to help learners progress to work and other courses.

Learners need to have a legal right to be a resident in the UK. The classes are subsidised by the Government which in some cases will mean the classes may be free or have a small hourly cost. Everyone pays an exam fee.

Appointments can be made on Eastbourne 637212 or 01273 511400 and further information is also available through the web, www.sussexdowns.ac.uk/esol
