TWO top celebrities – Timothy West and Prunella Scales, pictured above – are coming to Eastbourne later this month.
They have accepted invitations to attend the premiere of Pier and Promenades, a film about the history of Eastbourne's seafront, researched by pupils from Moira House Girls School.
This exciting project includes a film, live performance and a booklet recalling the expansion of our town as a top seaside resort during the late Victorian and early Edwardian period.
The project concentrates on 80 years between 1858 and 1938 covering the development of the promenade from Eastbourne Pier to the Grand Hotel.
Timothy and Prunella - stars of film, television and radio - will be the special guests at the event at the Grand Hotel on Sunday
February 28.
Timothy is the vice-president of the National Piers Society and will be saying a few words after the screening of the film.
Prunella brought Britain's longest-reigning monarch to life in An Evening with Queen Victoria when her production came to Eastbourne in 2007 as part of the town's Victorian Festival.
Both Timothy and Prunella - who is an ex-Moira House pupil, will be making the presentations at the Grand Hotel.
The Heritage Lottery-funded film and booklet takes you on a fun-filled and informative walk, visiting six well-known seafront sites; Eastbourne Pier, the Carpet Gardens, the Bandstand, the RNLI Lifeboat Museum, the Wish Tower and finishing in the Grand Hotel.
The major partners who worked closely with Musikata on Pier and Promenades, are Moira House Girls School, the Grand Hotel, the Towner Art Gallery, the RNLI Lifeboat Museum, Eastbourne Pier and Eastbourne Borough Council.
The afternoon will include music and songs performed by students from Moira House Girls School, the Gilbert & Sullivan Society and other local actors.
A performance will also be staged at Moira House Girls School on February 24 and an exhibition featuring the superb photography by the pupils, together with the film, will open in May at the Towner Art Gallery.
Please note that attendance at Moira House Girls School and the Grand Hotel by invitation only.
For information on obtaining copies of the film or booklet please contact Musikata on 07784 153002.
