THREE of Eastbourne's charity shops have been named in Vogue magazine as the some of the best places to bag 'vintage treasures'.
Help the Aged on Albert Parade in Old Town, The British Red Cross in Grove Road and The British Heart Foundation in Terminus Road have all been named in the latest issue of the glossy style bible, which usually features designer stores and famous mod
els.
Vera Taylor, assistant manager at the British Red Cross shop, says customers are often very generous with their donations and said the shop recently received some Christian Dior jewellery.
Vera said, "When we found out we were in Vogue we were so thrilled. This shop is such a jewel.
"When our manager Kala Poolton took over in April things just lifted off."
Vera, who has worked in charity shops for around ten years, said the shop now gets younger customers.
She added, "Sometimes people come in and don't even realise they are in a charity shop."
Vera also made an appeal for more good quality clothing and for more volunteers to join the team.
Jill Baker, who has been manager at the British Heart Foundation for ten years, said, "Back in October we made it into the Daily Mail newspaper but now we have gone a bit more up market because we are in Vogue.
"We were quite impressed to hear we were listed in the magazine."
Jill said good quality clothes such as Jaegar and Betty Jackson are often donated to the Terminus Road store.
She added, "I wouldn't say we get vintage clothes, but we do get the higher end labels and quite a lot of them."
Jenny Gearing, manager at Help the Aged in Old Town, said she was pleased the shop had been given a mention in Vogue and explained that people have donated clothes from DKNY, Karen Millen and Ghost in the past.
She said, "None of it would be possible without our wonderful volunteers who are aged between 15 and 87-years-old."
