A talented young golfer from Highwoods has qualified for the grand final of a popular national competition.
Belinda Whent will line-up in the conclusion of the HSBC Wee Wonders Championships at St Andrews - the birthplace of golf - from August 23-24.

The 12-year-old will play 18 holes each day over the Strathtyrum course alongside her fellow finalists in the girls' 11-12 years category from all over Great Britain and Ireland.

Bexhill High School student Belinda booked her place in Scotland by winning her category at the England South regional final.

Playing under the flag format in which each competitor has 36 shots to advance their ball as far round the course as possible, the 18 handicapper reached the 11th green.

The next best of the 18 other players at Hever Castle Golf Club got as far as the 10th green.

Belinda, who recently made a winning debut for her county, previously came through the local qualifier at Sedlescombe Golf Club.

The next big date in her diary is Monday when she will contest the final of the Abraham Trophy, at Ramside GC, Durham.
