Mark Davis chalked up an excellent win in the opening event of the main world tour snooker season on Monday.
The St Leonards hot-potter held his nerve to edge out home favourite Joe Swail 5-4 in round one of the Northern Ireland Trophy.

Davis, 58th on the official rankings, was 4-3 down against 20th-ranked Swail before squaring the match courtesy of a half-century break in frame eight.

Former World Championship semi-finalist Swail got in first in the decider with 24, but a run of 48 put Davis in control and he sealed victory by potting green and brown.

The 36-year-old, who booked his place in Belfast by coming through two qualifying matches, will face Chinese talent Ding Junhui in round two.
