Adrian Gray was narrowly beaten at the hands of a two-time world darts champion in televised action this afternoon.
St Leonards-based Gray lost 10-8 to Dennis Priestley in round one of the Sky Sports-televised Stan James World Matchplay.

The early stages were nip and tuck before Gray, currently at a career high 27th on the PDC order of merit, reeled off four straight legs to go from 4-2 down to 6-4 up.

He then stretched that advantage to 8-5 only to surrender the next five legs, a sequence which included a missed double eight for a 136 checkout in leg 16.

Twenty-seven-year-old Gray earned his place in the 32-man event at Blackpool's Winter Gardens via the Players Championship order of merit.
