John Lambert says Hastings United are starting to look like a team after two magnificent friendly wins this week.
Ryman League Premier Division outfit United stunned Blue Square Premier side Lewes 1-0 on Saturday before hammering Ryman Division One South team Burgess Hill Town 4-0 on Tuesday.

Lambert, Hastings' manager, enthused: "We're looking like we're becoming a team now, and hopefully it's going to get better and better. I'm getting really excited about the season and I think we're going to do okay.

"We're passing the ball well, the movement's good, the closing down's quite good and we're looking fairly solid at the moment. The clean sheets are a bonus."

Marc Whiteman scored the only goal six minutes from time against former club Lewes in sweltering conditions for Hastings' first home friendly last weekend.

Lewes fielded eight of the side which started the 1-1 draw against League One club Brighton & Hove Albion the previous Saturday, plus former Seagulls defender Danny Cullip.

"They weren't fazed by them (Lewes) at all and to a man they all played well. They never let Lewes settle and get into their rhythm, and I think we deserved it," continued Lambert.

United then proved the Lewes victory was no fluke by triumphing in comfortable fashion at Burgess Hill three days later.

First half strikes from Scott Ramsay and Matt Maclean were added to after the break by Antonio Gonnella and Sam Crabb.

Lambert added: "After playing so well against Lewes, you wondered if they'd be able to go to Burgess Hill and do it again, but they did and they look fit as well.

"We know a lot of people are saying 'they're not as good as the players that went', but the people that came on Saturday and on Tuesday night are starting to realise that these boys can play football."

Lambert confirmed that Hastings are currently having a look at Crabb with a view to signing the wide midfielder on a dual registration basis with Blue Square Premier Eastbourne Borough.

Sam Adams took part in the warm-up on Tuesday, but is doubtful for United's next friendly at home to Folkestone Invicta tomorrow, kick-off 3pm.

That will be followed by a visit from Eastbourne Town on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm) before the final friendly away to Chatham Town next Saturday (August 9).
