Iden have taken a significant step closer to clinching the East Sussex Cricket League title.
The village club has opened up a 16 point lead over 2007 winners Crowhurst Park going into the final round of Division One matches on Saturday.

That means that Iden can even afford to lose away to third-placed Ringmer as long as they pick up 15 points out of the possible 30.

Park must win at home to rock-bottom Tunbridge Wells Borderers and hope that Ringmer do them a huge favour.

Iden followed up their crucial win over Park the previous weekend by overcoming second-bottom Fletching by 50 runs on Saturday.

They rattled up 275-4 batting first at The Park with captain David White unbeaten on 110 - his fourth century of the season - and Phil Shanks making 70.

Iden then bowled the opposition out for 225 with the in-form Stuart Playford claiming 5-53 and spinner Chris Curd weighed in with a couple of wickets.

Park, meanwhile, were left frustrated as Rottingdean closed on 135-8 in pursuit of a victory target of 196.

Rye did their survival hopes the power of good by cruising to an eight wicket victory over Willingdon.

They need eight points from their final fixture to make sure of staying up after bowling Willingdon out for 64 and losing only two wickets in reply.

Battle moved 10 points clear of Buxted Park in the race for the second promotion place from Division Two.

The men from George Meadow beat second-bottom Robertsbridge by 111 runs thanks largely to 130 from Jez Reid, while Park lost by six runs to rock-bottom Herstmonceux.

Pett remain level on points with Division Three leaders Polegate & Stone Cross in light of a five-wicket over Crowborough.

The village club looked in all sorts of trouble at 59-5 in pursuit of Crowborough's 225-8, but Sam Richardson (88 not out) and Tim Hambridge (86 not out) saw them home.

Standings (all played 17 matches) - Division 1: Iden 373pts, Crowhurst Park 357, Ringmer 344, Barcombe 238, Rottingdean 294, Ditchling 289, Rye 282, Willingdon 282, Fletching 259, Tunbridge Wells Borderers 169.
