A Little Common Ramblers cricketer has starred for Spain in the ICC European Under-17 Division Two Championship.
Matt Winter scored 112 runs at an average of 56 and took five wickets as Spain finished third in the 10-team event hosted by Germany.

Spain found themselves placed in Group B alongside Belgium, Gibraltar, Greece and Switzerland, with Group A made up of France, Germany, Italy, Israel and the Isle of Man.

The Spanish got off to an excellent start courtesy of a six wicket victory over Greece in Bonn. Winter claimed 2-15 and was four not out as Spain cruised home.

Seventeen-year-old Winter returned figures of 0-23 with the ball and scored six with the bat as Spain lost by 80 runs at the hands of eventual winners Belgium in Bochum.

He then hit an unbeaten 44 from 39 balls and took 2-20 during Spain's comprehensive 126-run success over Switzerland in Moenchengladbach.

And Spain secured second place in their group thanks to sinking Gibraltar by 69 runs with Winter making 57 not out and claiming 1-23, also in Moenchengladbach.

Spain completed their campaign with a slender five-run triumph over Group A runners-up Israel in the third/fourth place classification match despite losing Winter for a single in Bonn.

Winter moved to Spain with his family in 2001 and still has Spanish residency even though he is currently studying sport science at Bexhill College.

He has represented Spain on a number of occasions and is now taking his coaching badges in the hope of moving into that line of work in the future.
