South Saxons Hockey Club remains on the coat-tails of South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One leaders Worthing II.
Saxons stay two points off the pace after winning on Saturday - but only just. They scraped it 3-2 at home to lowly Horsham II in a match where they were hoping to bolster their goal difference.

A full report will appear in Friday's Hastings Obser
ver.

It now looks to be very much a two-horse race for the title because third-placed Penguin lost at home to fourth-placed Southwick, leaving them nine points adrift of Saxons with a game in hand.

Saxons' second team moved off the bottom on goal difference despite being narrowly beaten 6-4 away to Lewes III. Worthing III replace them at the foot of the table after being hammered 9-1 at Crowborough.

Results: Crowborough 9 Worthing III 1; Eastbourne III 5 Brighton & Hove III 6; Lewes III 6 SOUTH SAXONS II 4; Penguin 1 Southwick 2; SOUTH SAXONS 3 Horsham II 2; Worthing II 6 Middleton & Bognor 1.

Standings (played-points): 1 Worthing II 14-40, 2 SOUTH SAXONS 14-38, 3 Penguin 13-29, 4 Southwick 14-28, 5 Lewes III 15-24, 6 Brighton & Hove III 14-22, 7 Crowborough 13-22, 8 Eastbourne III 15-13, 9 Middleton & Bognor 15-8, 10 Horsham II 14-7, 11 SOUTH SAXONS II 14-6, 12 Worthing III 15-6.
