Steve Scott is hungry for more after relishing his first taste of Olympic action in Beijing earlier this month.
The Battle shooter returned from China on Tuesday, last week, with some treasured memories and is now setting his sights firmly on London 2012.

Scott said: "For me it's been brilliant. The opening ceremony made it sink in a little bit more and from then onwards it was absolutely awesome."

The 23-year-old got to see some of the tennis and was in the Bird's Nest Stadium to witness Usain Bolt's astonishing world record display in the men's 100 metres.

He also paid a visit to The Great Wall of China with his father and enjoyed the opportunity to discuss training techniques with athletes from other sports.

Former World Junior Champion Scott described Team GB's feat of coming fourth in the medal table with 19 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze medals as "absolutely awesome".

Reflecting on his own performance in coming 13th in the men's double trap competition after what he called "absolutely brilliant"
preparation, Scott feels he just wanted it a little bit too much.

He began the qualifying event by hitting 43 out of 50, and subsequent scores of 45 and 46 left him two targets away from a shoot-off for the sixth and last place in the final.

"I felt I tried a little bit too hard in the first round and didn't shoot a brilliant score. But I was really good on the next two, it all came together really well," Scott added.

Looking ahead, Scott, who contested a World Cup event in Beijing during April, has three months off from competitive shooting from October.

But he intends to put the time to good use by training when the weather permits and trying out new bits of equipment, as well as giving his father a hand with his forestry work.

In 2009, Scott will attempt to successfully defend the European Championship he won in dramatic fashion in Cyprus last month and have a crack at the World Championship.

The Commonwealth Games are also coming up in 2010, but the one Scott is really targeting is the 2012 Olympics in the city of his birth.

He added: "I'm focused on 2012 already. Yes Beijing was really important and I gave it my all, but now London is even more important and it's our home ground."

Scott is part of Team B&Q which pays him a full-time wage for working part-time hours at B&Q Bexhill, enabling him to train for shooting on a full-time basis.
