A pupil from St Richard's Catholic College produced an extraordinary performance in a prestigious global swimming competition.
Victoria Turner won four gold medals - three as an individual and one as part of a relay team - at the World Catholic School Games (FISEC) in Malta.

Her father Ian said: "It was a great week for Victoria and thanks must go to the school for suppor
ting her in her achievements."

The 1066 Swimmer's gold rush began in the 100m backstroke, shrugging off a slow start to edge in front by the midway point before pulling away over the second half of the race.

Fourteen-year-old Victoria made a much better start to the 200m backstroke final and led all the way to claim her second first place at this international event.

She then joined forces with Emily Cott (Burnley), Lorna Breeze (Sunderland) and Amy Brown (Manchester) to triumph in the 400m IM relay.

Victoria, who also set new Personal Best times en route to the 100m and 200m finals, put the icing on a very attractive cake in the highly-anticipated 50m backstroke final.

There was nothing to separate her and two other swimmers as they entered the closing stages, but Victoria produced a textbook finish to pip the nearest Dutch girl by 0.02 seconds.

Moreover, the GB girls' team bagged bronze in the overall standings after four days of competition.
