CROWHURST Park began their defence of the East Sussex Cricket League with a 35-run win away to promoted Barcombe.

Park looked in all sorts of trouble early on as they struggled to 57-6 against the bowling of Joe Wheatley (7-61) but Colin Ayres (61) came to the rescue in partnership with Victor Walcott (39) and then Keith Hobbs (38).

Chasing a total of 1
86, Barcombe also found themselves in the mire early on in their innings at 43-5. Josh Wheatley (67) gave them hope but good bowling by Walcott (5-40) and Richard Coleman (3-19) meant they were dismissed for 151.

Also in Division One, Iden claimed local bragging rights over Rye with victory at The Salts.

The visitors amassed 199 all out thanks to Phil Shanks (55), David White (50) and Paul Barnett (34 not out), while the pick of the home bowlers was Martin Blincow (5-42).

Rye got off to a positive start in reply before Barnett went to work and returned excellent figures of 7-52. The home side looked out for the count at 89-8 before Gary Osborn (59) and Blincow (21) shared a partnership of 75. Iden had the final word though, skittling out their opponents for 164.

In Division Two, Battle clinched a seven wicket win over Eastbourne III, Herstmonceux did likewise against Newick and Robertsbridge went down by 144 runs at the hands of Heathfield Park.
