Festival of the Sea will be a fun day for families

The Bexhill Festival of the Sea is set to reel in the crowds next weekend with superb food, first class entertainment and the chance of catching a whopper.

Now in its third year the Bexhill Festival of the Sea offers a great day out for all the family.

The event, held on the West Parade lawns, Bexhill seafront September 6-7, is organised by local volunteers, anglers and the Bexhill Sea Angling Club, with support from Rother District Council and the Angling Trust.

Organiser Carole Green said: “The festival celebrates everything great about the sport and our sea. Last year 20,000 visitors enjoyed themselves at the festival. We’re hoping to welcome even more people to the seafront this year.”

A range of stalls will be selling delicious fish dishes prepared by top chefs from a host of countries and cultures which are sure to get taste buds tingling. There will also be plenty of unique shopping and gift ideas.

Carol added: “There will be plenty to keep the family occupied with a variety of games and activities. For anybody who has never picked up a rod before, expert coaches will be on hand to show you how to cast into the sea and maybe hook that catch of a lifetime and the lessons are completely free.”

The De La Warr Pavilion will be supporting the festival with live performances and film showings. Entertainment includes London based rockers The David Sinclair Four (DS4) who will perform at the Festival on September 6, at 2.30pm.

The Fishwives Choir will make a special performance at 12 noon on September 6. The Choir was created by Jane Dolby following the tragic loss of her fisherman husband, Colin (age 47), at sea in 2008 to raise funds for The Fishermen’s Mission to help them support other fishing families facing hardship or bereavement.

Anglers will be taking part in competitions throughout the weekend. Visitors can sit back and watch as anglers vie to catch the biggest fish. www.bexhillfestivalofthesea.co.uk
