CHINESE lanterns or UFOs - tales of the unexpected in the night sky over Mid Sussex stretch back over many years.
In the latest National Archives to be released there is a sighting 13 years ago of a long oval object with bright lights flying over Haywards Heath.
The sighting by a "frightened and uneasy" householder was reported on August 15, 1996.
The bright object appeared to move off towards Ditchling Beacon before disappearing for good.
