Crime in Rother has fallen 24.4 per cent over the last three years – far exceeding the 15 per cent target set by the Government Office for the South East in 2005.
The Safer Rother Partnership (SRP) exceeded its crime reduction target by the third highest margin in the region and more than any other partnership in East Sussex.
The reduction, which is in the crime types featured in the British Crime Survey,
includes a 60 per cent drop in domestic burglary, a 48 per cent fall in theft of vehicle and a 47 per cent reduction in theft from person. These massive drops in crime in Rother amount to 1,041 fewer victims of crime in the 2007/08-performance year compared with the baseline year (2003/04).
The figures were officially announced last week (17/07/08) when Home Office regional director for the South East, John Scott, praised the five Crime Reduction Partnerships that have contributed to a 20 per cent reduction in crime in East Sussex.
SRP chair Mani Gilbert-King said: "I am delighted that the Safer Rother Partnership has achieved this dramatic 24.4 per cent reduction in crime, particularly because of the 1,000 fewer victims in our district that it represents.
"But we are not complacent – the partnership will continue to tackle crime, the causes of crime and the fear of crime, bringing local agencies together to make Rother an even safer place to live, work and visit."
