Hastings College's 500-strong workforce are being forced to re-apply for their jobs.
The move has sparked fury among some staff, as up to 15 workers face a wage cut as a result.
One member of staff, who did not wish to be named, said: "We will be getting paid less for doing the same job. It's ridiculous."
A college spokesman sa
id there would be no compulsory redundancies following the staff review, which is part of "a significant transformation" taking place.
He added: "Work to develop Sussex Coast College Hastings is well underway on Station Plaza and it is essential that the entire infrastructure that will support it is fit for purpose.
"The college is looking at every element of provision and meticulously assessing how best to ensure the highest possible standards in post-16 education in Hastings and Rother.
"While this is being managed without the need for compulsory redundancies, a review of all aspects of staffing is obviously a key factor in the long term success of the college and includes a requirement to address historical inequalities in the terms and conditions of certain posts.
"As part of this work we have identified a very small minority of roles where adjustments in salary scales are needed to reflect the levels of pay received by colleagues in comparative jobs in other college departments.
"The staff concerned have been fully consulted and informed about the management of the on-going process."
