A SHAVING mirror on a west-facing window ledge is believed to have focussed the sun's rays on a sofa and set light to the lounge in a flat.
Two fire crews from Bexhill were assisted by the aerial ladder platform from Hastings in tackling Monday afternoon's blaze in Brassey Road.
Firefighters led six occupants from other flats in the block to safety as four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus penetrated the thick smoke in the lounge to tackle the blaze with hosereels.
The lounge was damaged by fire and a positive-pressure ventilator fan was used to clear smoke from the rest of the flat.
