FIREFIGHTERS rescued a young seagull which had become trapped in guttering above shops in Western Road on Wednesday lunchtime.
The bird had been stuck for almost three hours before the emergency services were contacted to help free it.

A crew from Bexhill Firestation used a ladder to reach the seagull, which was freed and placed in a bag for its journey back to ground level.

Western Road was closed briefly while the rescue operation took place in front of a crowd of residents and shop owners.

The bird appeared to be have no major injuries and was passed on to the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service to be examined and released.
