ATS/WRAC Association - June 20

REPORT on the meeting held on June 5 at the Red Cross Centre, Bexhill. A good attendance of 23 members, with apologies/absence from only three members.

Mr Eric Levey (with Pam) gave a very interesting and detailed history of the Red Cross movement and the British Red Cross in particular.

He passed around Henry Dunant's book "A Memory of Solferino". This battle in 1859 led to the beginning in 1864 of what has become the Red Cross. Copies of this book can be obtained from Red Cross HQ in London.

Chairman Des presented Mr Levey with a bottle of red wine with all our thanks for his enjoyable talk.

Following this talk, Des asked if a Cream Tea at the Miramar would be welcome in early July.

About 11 wished to go and this will be booked.

Secretary Jenny advised everyone about the PM's office reply to our letter on the Gurkhas. Not altogether satisfied with this reply, Jenny asked if she should write again; also to the Gurkha Association informing them of our full support. This was agreed. There is a Gurkha website.

Christmas lunch - of the three local quotes, one was chosen for December 4. 23 members wished to go.

Christmas party - members agreed to have this after the December meeting.

Burmarsh - a visit on July 1 by Des and Babs was arranged.

There was an auction of two packs of six all butter scones, raising money for our funds.

The competition (china animal) was won by Des' cat! The sales table and raffle brought in very useful sums.

Members were then advised that some other small items were still needed for the next female soldier's shoe box.

The meeting closed at 3.45pm.
