Bexhill Albatross Club is awarded three prestigious CAMRA gongs for real ale

Bexhill’s Albatross Club has become one of the country’s top real ale clubs, winning three coveted CAMRA awards.

The Campaign for Real Ales (CAMRA) awarded the Albatross Club, Marine Arcade, three accolades: South East Sussex CAMRA Club of the Year, Sussex CAMRA Club of the Year and Sussex and Surrey CAMRA Regional Club of the Year. These awards mean the Albatross club can now boast that it is one of the top 16 CAMRA clubs in the country.

The club’s head steward, Geoff Wentworth, introduced real ale to the club about four years ago and since then he says, with all hands to the pumps, they have won awards every year. He said: “We are also in the Good Beer Guide, the only licensed premises in Bexhill to have that honour. We host the Bexhill Beer Festival twice a year, the first Beer Festival is on April 11, 12 and 13 (the weekend of the London Marathon) and the second is in September. We have made great progress and we hope to have a fifth line on very soon.”

The Royal Airforce Association (RAFA) Bexhill-on-Sea branch The Albatross Club, was presented with the CAMRA awards last Saturday (January 11). Geoff thanked both CAMRA for the awards and the members of the Albatross Club for their support during the year, He said: “We are honoured to receive these awards. Our members are delighted that we are recognised as one of the top 16 Real Ale Clubs in the country. I thank the Club members for their ongoing support and CAMRA for making it all possible.

John Leahy the Club Chairman thanked Geoff for introducing Real Ale to the Club and for all his continuing hard work.
