PROUDLY displaying their work this week were the students of Seasons art class in St Martha’s church hall.

Hanging on the walls were the results of a 14-week course which had them tackling a wide range of techniques and subject matters, culminating in a stunning exhibition the likes of which many possibly never imagined they’d be part of.

One of them was Lesley Robinson who has now completed two courses and has found the experience in many ways fulfilling because of the different way she now sees the world around her.

Lesley always wanted to try her hand at art but it took her until now to have a go.

She said: “It was something that niggled at me for years. I always wanted to tackle it at school but never did any drawing or art, but I always felt I wanted to do it. Now I love it. It didn’t come easy to me, but I do a little bit at a time, and I have a go.

“You just take what comes out – sometimes it starts off as something quite different to how it develops. I am very critical of my own work, but I think everybody feels that way.”

She said of the 20 strong class: “It is a wonderful group here – they do encourage you, and I think that makes all the difference. We are all the same - all trying to achieve something.”

The Seasons course in Little Common is run by Genevieve and Mike Woodford, and the tutor is Luisa Dominguez.

Mike said: “Everybody who comes absolutely loves it - we put in so much work behind the scenes to make it good for them.”

There are four courses a year geared around the seasons and reflecting their different moods and themes.

The classes provide full-on tuition with step by step explanation and demonstration of the type of work being tackled, from sponging and stippling to working with pastels, water colours and acrylic paint.

Teacher Luisa commented: “The results here are amazing - it shows the students using lots of different techniques. Everyone is so different, it is exciting, and these are quite exceptional results. I have been teaching for many years and I show the students everything I know, and they get to do fantastic art. They are all inspiring.”
