A week to go until your new look Observer!

JUST one week to go and the Observer is making some big news of its own - and enjoying an autumn makeover!

As we told readers last week, we are making changes to the look and feel of the paper - making it bolder and brighter . We hope you will enjoy it as much as we have in working on the relaunch. So please don’t miss us on Friday, October 5.

Some of the world’s top newspaper designers have been commissioned by our parent company, Johnston Press, to come up with a new, fresh and appealing design for our pages. And we will be complementing the new look with a whole host of new features.

The biggest change of all will be the addition of a 16-page entertainments and what’s on section, called The Guide. We’ll bring you better-than-ever coverage of the theatre, music and arts scenes, as well as cinema news and comprehensive local listings. There will also be dining out and gardening pages and the best of the rest - a round-up of what’s happening on the entertainments scene across East Sussex. And for puzzle lovers amongst you, a new section to tickle those brain cells.

Some things won’t change. For example, our in-depth news coverage. Our research shows that you like our comprehensive local package. But it also tells us that you like reading the letters and comment, and we’re introducing more nostalgia, and more background features on breaking news topics, including a new ‘Friday feature’. And much, much more.

Above all, we want to keep the Observer as your paper. We want to hear your views, so let us know what you think. The changes won’t be done and dusted on October 5. We want to continue to evolve. If there’s something you want to see included, then please get in touch. The Bexhill Observer is your paper.

There will be an increase in the price of your Observer to 70p. Editor-in-chief, Keith Ridley, said:”For as long as we could, we have avoided passing on to readers our increasing production costs. As some people remark, even with this increase we are still only the price of a chocolate bar and not even half that of a cup of coffee or a fizzy drink. We hope our readers will still think of us as good value, particularly with the changes and additions we are making to the paper.”

We will, however, be offering a subscription to buy the paper for a year at today’s price, to offset the increase in return for readers’ continued loyalty. Full details will be given next week.

Meanwhile, we are breaking more and more news on our increasingly popular website. So why not join the thousands of readers who already visit us each month?

But for the full package - including analysis and in-depth reporting - we hope that your Observer will be a better buy than ever. Please make a date with your new Bexhill Observer - next Friday, October 5.

KEITH RIDLEY

Editor-in-Chief
