Anti link road protesters take to the trees

ANTI-link road protest in Bexhill gathered steam as East Sussex County Council contractors moved in at the weekend to fell trees just off London Road.

Now Combe Haven Defenders are attempting to stop workmen chainsawing down more trees by climbing into them.

Jenny Elliott-Bennett claimed that the group already felt intimidated by the presence of security guards but this escalated when one of the protestors - Denise Berry who is 63 - was pulled out of the tree and lay on her back with her ankle still stuck in a lower branch.

Emergency services were called and arrived at the scene on Monday at approximately 1.45pm to treat her. Sussex Police were also in attendance.
