Beware of e-mail scam

PEOPLE in and around Bexhill are being warned to beware of an e-mail scam that could cost them dear if they fail to be vigilant.

Large sums of money are being sought by fraudsters who hack into genuine e-mail accounts and then send a message to a family member or friend saying they have been mugged and have lost all their money.

They then ask for money to be sent to them immediately.

Although compromised accounts have been located in Trinidad and Tobago, police say such e-mails could emanate from anywhere

in the world, and computer users should always be on their guard.

Anyone who suspects they may be being targeted in a scam should contact police on 0845 6070999 with as much detail as possible.
