Bigger and better Beatles Day planned

The Beatles Day fundraiser will take place on April 11 this year, with organisers promising it will be bigger and better than ever.

The annual all-day concert is entering its eleventh year and has so far raised more than 75,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support locally.

Now held at the White Rock Theatre after starting out on Hastings Pier, it features more than ten hours of Beatles covers from dozens of local bands and performers.

And this year, organisers have confirmed there will be almost 300 musicians, singers and dancers taking part.

Graham How, who heads the team of volunteers behind the event, told the Observer: "This year, Beatles Day promises to be one of the best yet with some up and coming young bands joining the long list of established favourites.

"For the first part of the day, both stages in the White Rock Theatre will be used to fit in more than 50 separate acts and guarantee an eclectic mix of performances from a Capella, through rock, blues, classical, Latin and dance.

"We are promising people a great day out enjoying some of the best music from undoubtedly the most influential pop band in history — live."

The restaurant and licensed bars will be open throughout the day and there will be merchandising stalls selling specially designed commemorative t-shirts, posters and a large raffle.

All of the musicians, organisers and helpers donate their time free of charge and all proceeds to help local people with cancer.

Beatles Day 11 will start at noon and run until 10.30pm. Admission is 10 for adults, 5 for children under 14 and 25 for a family of two adults and up to three children under 14.

Revellers will be given a wristband allowing them to come and go through the day.
