Boost for young musical performers
THE world of musicals met the community at Christchurch Methodist Church when members of the Young BLODS visited to entertain.
They were there with director Bernard Simon to receive a cheque for £150 from the church’s Ladies’ Supper Club, following a platter supper after the Carols by Candlelight in December.
Bernard introduced Hannah, in the costume of Eliza Doolittle from My Fair Lady, and Freya, taking the part of Swampy in the Young BLODS forthcoming production of Dazzle, which is a new take on the Star Wars theme.
In thanking the Supper Club, Bernard explained how the Young BLODS was set up by demand from youngsters and the group is aimed at 10-18 year olds interested in musical theatre.
Hetti Bywater, who now has a starring role in Eastenders, started out as a Young BLOD.
Club Secretary, Chris Cox, said the Ladies’ Supper Club was “delighted” to have been able to help.

Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 09:17 AMBy the way Harriet (Hetti) Bywater didn't actually do anything other than audition for Young BLODS, and she was only offered a very small part in the chorus, in Les Mis a few years back. But she didn't take it as she was filming something else at the time. It seems that everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon and use her name to promote themselves. Like Theatre Workshop, where she did attend since she the age of 11.. Harriet also had a long and happy relationship with Emma Burnett, who was her singing teacher at Mad Fish Studios for approximately 10 years.
