Boxing club and basketball at ribbon cutting of Egerton Park outdoor gym

BUDDING athletes limbered up in Egerton Park on Saturday at the official launch of the AdiZone.

The 18-station outdoor gym and sports facility is the only one of its kind in East Sussex and is designed to be part of the sporting legacy left by the 2012 games.

The AdiZone, which also features basketball hoops, climbing and tennis walls, football goals and a freestyle area, has proved popular with families and youngstesr over the last few weeks.

It was funded by Rother District Council and sports equipment giant Adidas.

Bexhill Giants basketball team showed off their on-court skills with a demonstration at the opening ceremony. They were joined by members of Southlands Boxing Club who gave an energetic display of their pugilistic prowess.

Representatives from Adidas gave out prizes to youngsters who competed in competitions during the event.

Rother District Council member for children and youth issues Cllr Jonathan Johnson cut the ribbon to mark the official opening.

He said: "I am delighted to see so many people here, taking an active interest in sport.

"We would like to thank Adidas for supporting this project and look forward to the Olympics which is just two years from now."
