Camber vandals strike again

Vandals have struck at Camber again damaging public benches and setting fire to a bundle of papers outside a newsagents.

The village has suffered a number of problems with vandals recently.

Earlier this year more than 700 of damage was caused to the Memorial Hall when vandals smashed two windows, damaged a fire door and tore an extractor fan off the wall.

The hall is used by a number of local groups, including mums and toddlers, and also provides space for a GP's surgery.

But it has suffered ongoing attacks by vandals who have pulled out BT wires, used to connect computers at the surgery, daubed graffiti, pulled drainpipes away from the wall and broken shutters.

Last July A children's playground at Camber was left in a dangerous condition following mindless vandalism.

Safety tarmac matting beneath the swings was pulled up and the pieces strewn across the park.

In a separate incident a fire was started on a slide at the play-park and a teenager was later arrested.

The latest incidents took place on Sunday at around 10am, in Lydd Road, and happened within minutes of each other. Police are appealing for witnesses.
