Carer charged with ill-treatment

A BEXHILL woman is accused of ill-treating vulnerable adults.

Susan Szlafke, 54, of De la Warr Road, was charged last Thursday with four counts of ill treatment against vulnerable adults in her care between August and October 2011.

East Sussex County Council had contacted Sussex Police and a joint agency safeguarding investigation, led by East Sussex Adult Protection Team, was launched.

Szlafke was arrested in December on suspicion of ill treatment under the Mental Capacity Act, following allegations that she had mistreated several vulnerable women between 89 and 96 years of age while working as a carer at Richmond Residential Care Home in Collington Lane East.

She has been bailed to appear at Hastings Magistrates Court next Thursday, on February 23.
