Charlie wants county role

Pebsham has supported Charles Clark six times already in local elections - he has been an independent councillor representing St Michael’s Ward in Rother District Council for no less than 21 years. Now however he is seeking a county role and wants to stand in the upcoming election for Bexhill East.

Charlie is telling voters: “I will be standing as an independent which means my only interest will be to fight to protect local services and the quality of lives of local residents. If elected I will deliver regular ward newsletters and carry out surveys in the ward to find out your concerns. I already do this in my own ward. Council tax is again frozen this year but it’s still a lot of money for residents to find each month. I am very concerned regarding cuts in services for the elderly - 36% of Bexhill residents are over 65. We must protect residents who are old, frail or disabled. Many residents also live alone and need support.”

It is a major concern for him that services provided now might be cut in the future and he wants to work towards retaining them, while seeing a county role as an extension of what he already does, such as following up demand for road repairs and potholes in Pebsham and or helping parents find a place for a child at the oversubscribed local school.

Charlie said: “It would duplicate a lot of what I do now. I just feel someone has got to stand up for Bexhill if we are going to keep ourselves protected. We need a strong voice in Lewes to make sure Bexhill services are protected. Nowadays if you don’t shout loud you get nothing.”

Charlie has lived in Pebsham for 40 years and is a retired respite care officer. He was Bexhill Town Mayor in 2000/1. He is a trustee of the Pbsham Community Association and two years ago started his own monthly library for residents which he organises and finances himself. He has raised many thousands of pounds for local charitys such as St Michael’s Hospice with events such as live music nights at the community centre.
