Christchurch gives away £2,000

Christchurch gave away £2,000 in charity cheques at the weekend - profits from its highly successful Flower Festival.

Following Sunday morning service a presentation was held in the church hall to two charities nominated by members of the Ladies Supper club. Both received 1,000 of the proceeds from the Flower Festival held over May Bank Holiday.

St Michael's Hospice at Home was represented by two nurses from the team, who were Emma Warren and Louise Smith, while Jenny Private and Jan Corke were given the cheque for Homecall, which is a voluntary home visiting service for sight-impaired people.

Church member Joan Turnwell said the success of the Flower Festival was "absolutely amazing".

She commented: "We decided to give 1,000 to these two charities and keep 1,000 for work for the church and put some away for the next lot of flowers."
