Cyclist’s A259 death was road traffic accident: inquest
A CYCLIST riding along the pavement beside the A259 De La Warr Road, Bexhill, lost control just before he was passed by an articulated lorry, an inquest heard.
In the one-and-a-half seconds police expert PC Adrian Short calculated that it took the lorry to pass, the cyclist fell into the road and struck his head on the carriageway, suffering fatal head injuries.
Today (Wednesday) East Sussex coroner Alan Craze recorded a verdict that James ‘Jimmy’ Cramp, 41, a single man from Clifford Road, Bexhill, who worked as a cabinet maker died from a road traffic accident.
Eight ‘stills’ taken from a CCTV camera mounted in the lorry’s cab showed Mr Cramp beginning to lose control as driver Stephen Ramsden, 60, from Morley, Leeds, approached.
The court heard evidence that suggested at no time had cycle and lorry come into contact.
Police and paramedics attended the scene on April 12 and Mr Cramp was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
