Drew to climb Kilimanjaro for charity
A STUDENT from Eastbourne will be trekking to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro for charity later this year.
Drew Smith, a student at the University of Brighton in Eastbourne, and also a bar superviser at the Loft in Station Street, is busy raising money for his fundraising trip to Afirca in July. He will be trekking in aid of Plan Inernational, which tackles child poverty and deprivation in more than 48 countries worldwide.
A charity event is planned at the Loft on the Thursday March 25 with live bands, charity raffles, charity casinos, a magician and a chocolate fountain. Staff at the bar are donating their night's wages to Drew's appeal and tickets to the event are 3.
Drew's trip begins on July 1 and he will be trekking to the glaciated summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
During the 10-day adventure, Drew will be visiting the Plan International project office and various local communities throughout the ascent.
He said, "My target is to raise more than 3,000 for Plan International to contribute to the millions of pounds needed to help achieve lasting improvements in the quality of life of deprived children in developing countries across the world through education, health, water and sanitation, protection, economic security, emergencies, child participation and sexual health."
